Watching a play is much more exciting than watching a movie - the immediacy of live actors makes it feel like you're right there with them, sharing their joy, pain and need to perform highly choreographed dance numbers. Get in on the action with today's WagJag: 30% off a ticket to see Evil Dead: The Musical at the Hamilton Place Theatre on October 29, 2014. Choose from three seating price ranges:
- $27.65 for a seat in the second balcony (a $39.50 value)
- $34.65 for a seat in the first balcony (a $49.50 value)
- $43.40 for a seat in the orchestra (a $62 value)
The show turns Sam Raimi's groundbreaking 1981 horror-comedy flick into a messy live act, fleshed out with full musical numbers for extra-campy goodness. The story starts with Ash, a student who treks up to a remote cabin in the woods with four other friends for spring break. Hopes of a relaxing vacation are promptly dashed when demonic forces begin possessing the teens one by one, with laughably gory results. Christopher Bond and George Reinblatt's musical additions to the story add delightfully catchy hooks to all the violence, with songs like "Look Who's Evil Now" and "What the F*** Was That" sure to get as stuck in your head as the nightmarish visuals.
Reviews
"The next Rocky Horror Show." - The New York Times
"It's good, clean, dirty fun: hilariously bloody and bloody hilarious." - Toronto Star
"Evil Dead: The Musical is a riotous good time full of biting one-liners and hyperbolic gore that appeals to first timers but also watches like a good inside joke for anyone who is a fan of the cult classic horror film. The musical adaptation breathes life into the original film's most iconic moments (think bloody chainsaw hand) while smartly poking fun at its most outlandish elements (as any good parody will). A stellar cast brings a necessary high energy to this campy spectacle, where fake blood rains down on audience members as a coveted souvenir, and main character Ash steals your heart a little more than you'd like to admit. The cast is enthusiastic, the premise is amusingly absurd, and the music is catchy, so don't be surprised if you leave the theatre humming the background vocals to 'All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons,' or trying to master all the dance steps of the Necronomicon." - Jenn Martin, editor at WagJag
