The experience begins on the ground with a comprehensive 30-minute debriefing from a Transport Canada certified flight instructor that covers safety measures and how to use the controls and equipment. Then it's up, up and away, not in a beautiful balloon but a Cessna Aircraft. Newbie pilots do most of the flying from the pilot's seat, getting the chance to operate the controls and turn, climb, descend, slow down, speed up and get an overall feel for the plane. Each discovery flight experience takes about an hour to complete and concludes with a tour of the Guelph Flight Centre school and facilities.
