What You Get
Did you know that before steamships, vacations were cheaper because cruises were always on sail? (...) Learn other tidbits of nautical knowledge with today's WagJag: for $5, get family admission for two adults and two kids to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic (an $11 value).
While these days it's getting a little chilly for a walk by the sea, it's never too chilly to visit the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, located in the heart of Halifax's waterfront. Step inside the museum's artifact-abundant dwellings to engage in an oceanic expedition of Nova Scotia's rich maritime history, from the days of sail to the age of steam and all the shipwrecks in between. Peruse permanent exhibits devoted to the Navy, Titanic, the Halifax Explosion of 1917, the CSS Acadia and more. Featured on display until the end of November is the Hello Sailor! exhibit, an exploration of the unique subculture created by gay men working as stewards on British ocean liners from the 1950s to the '80s.
You and your family are sure to have a merry time on your journey through all the maritime marvels on display - and if you need extra teaching aids there are plenty of programs, talks and tours running each month, all included in the price of admission.
