Do as the birds do with in-class training sessions designed to help you spread your wings and fly. This Burlington-based airpark is a full flight training facility that has been teaching people to go airborne for over 40 years. Learn all you need to know in class to take the Transport Canada written exam that counts towards obtaining a private pilot license. The course consists of three-hour classes with experienced instructors using easy-to-understand PowerPoint presentations. Once you have ground school under your pilot's cap, you just need to clock 10 hours of flight time to take the written test.

Achieve part of those required 10 hours with your half-hour Discovery Flight in a Cessna 152. Pre-flight, learn about the main control surfaces of an aircraft, how to inspect and prepare for flight, plus techniques for climbs, descents, turns and level flying. Students then put all theory into play in the air, with an instructor walking you through the steps and giving you the controls. Maximum weight is 200 lbs and maximum height is 6 ft. (an upgrade to a more accommodating aircraft is available for $10 plus tax to be paid the day of the flight). The facility is open all year, seven days a week (depending on weather conditions); book any time after your first ground school class.
