Exhibitions:
October 12, 2019–January 5, 2020
Early Rubens features the North American debut of some of the most ambitious works by Peter Paul Rubens. He is one of the most revered painters in Western art – widely recognized for his riveting, dynamic and even cinematic style, known as the Baroque.
February 22–May 17, 2020
Illusions: The Art of Magic transports you back in time to the Golden Age of Magic when death-defying tricks, daring escapes and colourful personas turned performers like The Incomparable Albini and Harry Houdini into world-famous celebrities. The exhibition features more than 55 colourful and stylized posters from the Allan Slaight Collection of the McCord Museum, Montreal, alongside photographs, films and documents.
Diane Arbus: Photographs, 1956-1971
February 22–May 17, 2020
The striking black and white photographs of legendary American photographer Diane Arbus (1923–1971) revolutionized portraiture, through their range of subjects and their style. In 2016, thanks to the generosity of a small group of donors, the AGO acquired the world’s second largest collection of Arbus photographs. The AGO honours that landmark acquisition of 522 works with a major solo exhibition, the first in Canada in almost three decades.
Picasso: Painting the Blue Period
June 27-September 20, 2020
A major exhibition of works by Pablo Picasso is coming to the AGO, combining art history and cutting-edge science to reveal new insights into the artist's working methods and sources.
